[ad_1]

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have some decisions to make to get cap compliant before the start of the regular season. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti go through the team’s salary cap situation with some help from CapFriendly’s Armchair GM tool. They address some concerns from listeners about moving Pierre Engvall not making Mike’s opening night projected roster (3:40). With John Tavares injured, Mike and Dave look at the options when it comes to the designation he will carry going into the season as well as Timothy Liljegren (5:23). Which players could we expect to see placed on waivers in order to trim the Leafs cap number heading into the final cuts while also factoring Zach Aston-Reese signing a contract (7:50).

They look at alternate options to make the team cap compliant without making a trade and how it would put the team in a tough position playing shorthanded (12:40). Mike and Dave explain why a trade remains the best option to getting cap compliant and rank the three players who remain the best options to move (15:45). They simulate what an Engvall trade would open up in terms of flexibility and the long term effects it will have from now until the trade deadline and other factors that would make this the right move purely for cap reasons (18:30).
