The 2022 NHL Draft had no shortage of big moves happening and the Toronto Maple Leafs were a part of the action. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on the opening night in Montreal which got started with some tense moments heading in the first overall pick (2:20). The Leafs made their mark on Day 1 trading Petr Mrazek to the Chicago Blackhawks along with 25th overall for the 38th overall pick. Mike and Dave give their thoughts on the disingenuous messaging in the analysis of the deal (11:20). It was also a confusing move for the Blackhawks which wasn’t the only trade that was a head-scratcher for many reasons when you consider the move they made for Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach (16:14).
Who could the Leafs be looking to take on Day 2 of the NHL Draft? Mike and Dave go through a list of players that could be targeted based on the latest draft boards (19:10). To end the show, Mike and Dave go through Kyle Dubas’ media availability with reporters where he discusses the flexibility that the Mrazek trade provides (25:20). They go through the idea that the Leafs now have more options to add a goaltender but who makes sense for them (29:45)? Dubas also made it a point to say that they are willing to give their younger goalies a chance to compete for a spot but does it make sense? Mike and Dave give their thoughts on the strategy and where the priorities should remain heading into free agency (36:45).
