Leafs start training camp with Dubas on expiring contract

On the official first day of training camp, we got to hear what the Toronto Maple Leafs had to say about the upcoming season and get a glimpse into expectations over the next few weeks. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti looked at the official training camp roster to see if there were any notable names that weren’t expected to be there (0:00). They discuss the official injury update involving Timothy Liljegren and Pierre Engvall and how the timeline opens up the door for some players to earn an extended look in camp (10:53). 

Mike and Dave discuss the comments from general manager Kyle Dubas and what he had to say about his contract status and a not-so-great question posed to him about the betting odds relating to Sheldon Keefe being the first coach fired this season (17:07). They expand on the open battle between Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov and why it’s setting up to be a true competition for playing time (22:10). They also look into what Sheldon Keefe had to say especially his thoughts on who could play with John Tavares and William Nylander and if the duo could see time apart again (28:25).
