The NHL provided some insight into the salary projections over the next few seasons and other topics. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give a shoutout to the Golden State Warriors and Canadian Andrew Wiggins winning the NBA title (2:00). The league is deciding to keep the rules regarding long-term injured reserve and not longer after the Shea Weber trade goes down (9:15). Mike and Dave discuss the issues they have with the current LTIR system.
The NHL saw an increase in hockey-related revenue but won’t see an increase in the salary cap for another few years. Mike and Dave give their thoughts on why this should be viewed as a positive given what has happened the past few years (14:54). There appears to be a desire to have the World Cup of Hockey on a more regular basis. The guys discuss the return of the tournament and why the potential time of year they want to hold the tournament is an interesting idea (19:15).
To end the show, Mike and Dave go through the results of the Leafs fan survey to see if their answers match up (25:23). They discuss the fans’ belief in the management team and if they would make changes if the Leafs don’t win a playoff round next season (30: 40). It looks like many want Jack Campbell back but what are the terms of the contract that they want and what should the Leafs do with Petr Mrazek? Mike and Dave discuss those results (37:58).
